Well, I'm 'Touched'
I am baseball purist.
I don't like red Yankees' caps. Just like I don't like navy and white pinstriped Red Sox caps. Seriously, the red Yankees' caps are atrocious. And, not because I feel red is the sacred color, but rather, a true fan would never, ever, wear the color or style of their most hated rival. Seriously, that is just wrong and makes no sense. I don't like alternate jerseys either. Most of them are hideous and for a purist, there is nothing like the tradition of the ole' dress whites for home and grays for away.
So, naturally, I am not a big fan of almost all of the sport apparel out there on the market, with exception of the vintage reissues, like Mitchell & Ness, and Moonlight Graham.
However, I am also a realist, so when I saw today that Alyssa Milano was creating a special line of personal baseball fan attire for women, I yelled "swing!" because first of all, unlike many of the A-list posers we saw hanging out at Fenway in the summer of 2005, she is a real baseball fan...so much that she dates the players1. So, naturally, it is important to her to look...um...'charming' at the ballpark (sorry, but you knew it was coming.)
But let's get down to it - most women's sports fan apparel is pretty bad and if when I go to a ball game and see the stands packed with beautiful young women (as I do at most parks) I would much rather have their attire inspired by Alyssa Milano than Bug Selig. I know you're with me...
As my friend Kurtsnogle says, "...view...larger...image...please." Click away, my good man.
Post note: Alyssa has actually started an MLB blog. You can read about her escapades here: http://alyssa.mlblogs.com/alyssa/
1. She is known to have dated Brad Penny, Barry Zito and Carl "I've Fallen and I can't get up" Pavano and his $40M bruised butt cheek. She seems to like a man with ball control.
